TECHNICOLOR

TECHNICOLOR
When we think of color movies, we inevitably think of Technicolor, the most famous name associated with the color process of filmmaking. The original Technicolor process, which reached its peak usage in the 1950s, was a revolutionary development in film. Its color quality was considered exact reality, but, ironically, it was so realistic that it was thought unrealistic, and directors and viewers tended to see black-and-white cinematography as more real, more serious. Technicolor was used for high-budget show spectacles and costume dramas—including Westerns. While today the term is often used loosely for any color process, the trademarked label actually refers to the multitude of color innovations developed by Technicolor Moving Entertainment Company.
